Canary in the Liberal Coal Mine: Republican Could Replace Kennedy

This sounds too good to be true, but Public Policy Polling has Republican Scott Brown leading Democrat Martha Coakley by 48-47 in the special election to replace Ted Kennedy.

Sure, it’s still a long-shot. But I remember last year when conventional wisdom in the media was that Kennedy’s death would propel Obamacare over the top. I always knew that was ridiculous. Linking Kennedy to Obama’s legislation could only hurt the President’s chances with mainstream (a.k.a., not-helplessly-liberal) America.

Coakley will probably pull out the win, but this is already a moral victory. This race never should have been this close. Never.
